Herbal remedy for canker sores

The remedy marketed in the box depicted at right works very well for canker sores. There are many OTC herbal remedies available in Taiwan that work very well for a variety of health problems, but my guess is that most foreigners don't bother to look into them, searching instead for their usual remedies they used 'back home'. The ingredients of this remedy are licorice, yellow loosestrife, taurine, bean powder, and one other ingredient I've yet to identify.

There is another product available, a gel, also marketed under a Chinese label, that had as it's main active ingredient carbenoxolone sodium, which is also derived from licorice. I suspect the one pictured at right is available in Chinese stores in the US.
